THE CHALLENGE

Data Centre

Restricted irregular space

Our team were contacted by the contractor to provide a water tank solution that would fit into an existing building and provide an additional useable water storage capacity of 50m3 for a Data Centre in Wakefield.

We met the contractor onsite to explore what space options were available in the various areas within the existing building. As space was a real constraint on this one, we provided & discussed numerous configurations of tank types and sizes that wouldn’t have an impact on the existing structural loading limitations of the building and that would meet all of the required criteria originally provided by the client.

TRICEL SOLUTION

To reduce the amount of floorspace being used, the tank needed to be pushed up against a wall whilst allowing it to be easily assembled and more importantly for the end client, to facilitate any future cleaning and maintenance. The other constraint on this project was a sloping ceiling, so we had to ensure that all the manways and ballvalve boxes were located towards the front of the tank. With all this in mind, we put forward a suitably sized Totally Internally Flanged Tank to achieve the actual useable capacity required.

We also configured the tank to have a central division that would provide two equal compartments and ensure that any future cleaning and maintenance in accordance with HSE ACoP L8 can be carried out without interrupting the buildings water supply.

After we had approval of the final design drawing, the tank went in to manufacture and our logistics team organised a tail lift truck from the courier to deliver to parts directly to site to to meet our approved installation engineers. The engineers then conveyed the new tank sections into the basement plant area.

To ensure that the tank was supported correctly in accordance with BS EN 13280, we provided galvanised base levelling steels with shims @ 500mm centres for the tank to sit on.

Once the tank build was completed, piped up & tested by the contactor, the client built a 1750mm bund wall to safeguard the tank and the associated pipework from passing traffic and as a pre-cautionary measure to protect the valuable machinery that was in close proximity.

The bespoke manufacturing process that our team adopts for this range of tanks, allows us to be flexible with tank sizes and enable us to fit water tanks into a greater selection of irregular shaped rooms or confined spaces. Our TIF range of sectional tanks allows us to offer 1000mm, 750mm, 500mm & 250mm lateral increments and 100mm increments from as shallow as 800mm up to 3m high.

Our TIF tank range has been independently tested by the NSF to meet the requirements of the UK Water Regulation 4 (1) a.
