THE CHALLENGE | Dairy crest
Restricted Space In The Plant Room
Dewey Waters is proud to have been chosen for this major maintenance project, delivered under tight and critical deadlines. The project took place at Dairy Crest’s largest cheese-making creamery, located in Davidstow. This site produces well-known Cheddar cheese brands, including Cathedral City and Davidstow.
The client identified that two large process tanks were beginning to fail. As a result, they decided to carry out essential maintenance during the low production period in July.
We received the subcontract order on 18th June. The installation was scheduled to begin on-site on 29th June, with all works to be completed by 31st July.
TRICEL SOLUTION | 760000 litre water tank
The solution involved producing technical drawings and manufacturing all panels for two large tanks. Each tank measured 19 x 10 x 4 meters high, holding 760,000 litres. In total, we delivered 1,340 panels, along with ladders, tie bars, packing, and wrapping—all completed in just over a week!
To meet the tight delivery deadline, our busy factory pushed into overdrive. On June 29th, our crew of 10 arrived on-site to receive two full lorry loads of panels and connections. Installation began immediately.
Because of the demanding schedule, the team worked throughout the weekend to stay on track. We secured local accommodation for the crew, who remained on-site until the project was completed.
Despite a quieter production month in the factory, water storage demand remained high. The tanks needed replacing in the exact same location. Therefore, the first tank had to be installed and operational before the second tank could be removed.
During the downtime between phases, we chose to stay on-site. This allowed us to complete preparations and be ready to start the second tank installation as soon as the site was cleared.
THE FINAL RESULT | 760000 litre water tank
As expected on a project of this size, we encountered small site issues along the way which we successfully overcame, including sending an additional crew of 4 to site to pull back lost time. We are extremely proud to have achieved everything set out by our client particularly under such time deadlines.
