Project Background

University Hospital Crosshouse, built in 1978, is a large district general hospital in Kilmarnock, Scotland. To ensure a reliable filtered water supply tank, the hospital required an upgraded system that met SHTM standards. The facility has 645 beds and provides maternity services for the entire NHS Ayrshire & Arran region. Additionally, the purpose-built maternity unit includes 51 more beds, featuring a neonatal intensive care unit, special care, and pediatric services.

THE CHALLENGE

The hospital required Tricel Lanark to remove old sectional tanks and replace them with HPM Sectional Tanks that provide a filtered water supply in compliance with SHTM standards. The installation process needed to avoid disruptions to the hospital’s water supply while ensuring the highest water quality.

Filtered water supply

Our technical knowledge and expertise of SHTM and HTM specifications required by hospitals allowed us to provide the client with a suitable water storage solution that would allow them access to a filtered water supply.

Tricel’s Solution

Our installation crew accessed the site. A foundation audit determined that the existing supports needed modifications to accommodate the new GRP water tanks. After thorough inspections, our team reinforced the foundations to support the larger, upgraded tanks.

Throughout the process, our sales, manufacturing, and logistics teams worked alongside hospital contractors, BBESL Glasgow, a leading infrastructure group. By maintaining strict project timelines, we ensured that the filtered water supply tank installation remained on schedule and met hospital safety standards.

The Final Result

Our logistics and site teams met the hospital’s tight deadlines, ensuring no disruption to the water supply. We successfully installed two externally flanged sectional tanks, providing a with a total capacity of 216,000 litres.

By combining technical expertise and strategic planning, we helped BBESL create a suitable new foundation for the filtered water supply tank installation. The project was completed within two weeks, securing a clean, safe, and uninterrupted water supply for University Hospital Crosshouse.
