THE CHALLENGE
Restricted irregular space
Our team were contacted by the contractor to provide a water tank solution that would fit into an existing building and provide an additional useable water storage capacity of 50m3 for a Data Centre in Wakefield.
We met the contractor onsite to explore what space options were available in the various areas within the existing building. As space was a real constraint on this one, we provided & discussed numerous configurations of tank types and sizes that wouldn’t have an impact on the existing structural loading limitations of the building and that would meet all of the required criteria originally provided by the client.
TRICEL SOLUTION | tif tank installation
To reduce floor space usage, the tank needed to be positioned against a wall. However, it still had to be easy to assemble and, importantly, allow for future cleaning and maintenance.
Additionally, the project had a sloping ceiling constraint. Therefore, we ensured all manways and ballvalve boxes were positioned at the front of the tank.
Considering these factors, we proposed a Totally Internally Flanged (TIF) tank to achieve the required usable capacity.
For this TIF tank installation, we designed the tank with a central division. This provided two equal compartments, enabling future cleaning and maintenance as per HSE ACoP L8 without interrupting the water supply.
Once the client approved the final design drawing, the tank moved into production. Meanwhile, our logistics team arranged for a tail-lift truck to deliver parts directly to the site, ready for our approved installation engineers.
Next, the engineers carefully moved the tank sections into the basement plant area.
To ensure correct support, we provided galvanized base levelling steels with shims at 500mm centres, meeting BS EN 13280 standards.
After the TIF tank installation was completed, the contractor piped and tested the system. Following this, the client built a 1,750mm bund wall. This safeguarded the tank and pipework from passing traffic and protected nearby valuable machinery.
Our bespoke manufacturing process allows for flexible tank sizes. Therefore, we can fit water tanks into irregular-shaped rooms or tight spaces with ease.
The TIF tank range offers lateral increments of 1000mm, 750mm, 500mm, and 250mm. Additionally, it provides 100mm depth increments, from as shallow as 800mm to as deep as 3 metres.
Finally, our TIF tanks are independently tested by NSF and fully comply with UK Water Regulation.
