THE CHALLENGE

Restricted Space In The Plant Room

Our client contacted our sales team to supply cold water storage tanks for Hoe Valley School and the adjoining leisure facilities. The total capacity required to service the school’s cold-water storage requirements included a total capacity of over 70,000 litres of water.

TRICEL SOLUTION

Our team received the order on the 5th of April, delivery and installation then took place over three days at the end of April and into the first week of May. The water tanks supplied included:

1. Sectional Tank Hot Press 4.50 x 4.00 x 3.00m High complete with 5meters of Galvanised Steel Safety Guardrail 1100mm High, 10 of 100 x 50 x 3mm x 4150mm Long Box Section Steels.
2. Sectional Tank HLU TIF 3.00 x 2.00 x 2.00m High complete with 7 off 100 x 50 x 3mm x 2000mm
3. Long Box Section Steels Sectional Tank HLU TIF 2.00 x 1.50 x 2.00m High complete with 5 off 100 x 50 x 3mm x 1500mm L Box Section Steels
4. One Piece GRP Storage Tank D5 CAT 5 break tanks
5. One Piece GRP Storage Tank M200 CAT 5 break tanks

During the visit with CMB Engineering, our team marked out the dimensions of each tank which were outlined in the original water tank specification document. This was completed to inspect the floor space available to ensure we would not encounter any problems with installation once the water tanks are manufactured.

On completion of the site assessment, it wasn’t possible to install the school’s water tanks specified, our technical team found issues with additional plant restrictions, which would cause issues during installation stage. Our team offered alternative design options, which included revised tank dimensions & connections that would be more suitable to the space available.

After discussing our concerns around the project, we offered a solution of supplying Totally Internally Flanged Tanks (TIF) which better suited the site layout in addition to solving concerns around space restrictions, the revised cold-water tanks also provided cost savings compared to the original tanks specified.
Totally Internally Flanged Tanks are the ideal solution where space is restricted. TIF tanks differ from other sectional tanks as all panels are fitted internally allowing the tank assembly team to construct the water tanks from the inside out, maximising external space available. The tanks can be constructed with 50mm on three side and unrestricted access on one side. The tank specifications where changed to suit the restrictions, the connections were then revised to suit the capacity and demand.

THE FINAL RESULT

This is s great example of when half panels can be a perfect solution. Our manufacturing and site crews have utilised the space available to maximise the schools water storage capacity. Our sales, manufacturing, and logistics departments and site crews worked together alongside the college contractors to ensure that the project was completed within the time frame required. We completed the project in July 2021.
