THE ‘WALKIE TALKIE’ BUILDING LONDON WATER TANK INSTALLATION

Futuristic skyscraper architecture in a bustling urban city setting.

grp sectional tank installation

In July 2012, Tricel Weston successfully delivered a water tank installation project for an office tower in London. The installation included four tanks of varying sizes: Tank 1 measured 9 x 6 x 3 metres with a capacity of 162,000 litres, Tank 2 was 7 x 6 x 3 metres holding 126,000 litres, while Tanks 3 and 4 were both 2 x 2 x 2 metres with capacities of 8,000 and 6,000 litres respectively. The project catered to the water storage needs of a large commercial building within the office sector.

The Challenge

The construction of 20 Fenchurch Street, famously known as the ‘Walkie Talkie’ building, introduced several engineering challenges. Its top-heavy structure and 160-meter height required an efficient and reliable water storage system. To meet these demands, the solution needed to integrate seamlessly with the building’s unique design while ensuring a consistent filtered water supply.

Tricel’s Comprehensive Solution

Addressing these challenges required a turnkey approach. Our team managed the entire process, including supply, delivery, offloading, positioning, and installation. The project involved four GRP hot press sectional water tanks, along with levelling steels, intricate connections, ladders, and guardrails. Through careful planning and execution, the tanks were securely installed without compromising the building’s architectural integrity.

Beyond installation, efficiency and reliability remained our priorities. By collaborating closely with project managers, we ensured that the filtered water supply tank system met the highest safety and performance standards.

The Final Result – A Reliable grp sectional tank installation for a Landmark Building

The successful installation included four tanks with varying capacities:

  • 162,000 litres
  • 126,000 litres
  • 8,000 litres
  • 6,000 litres

This GRP sectional tank installation provided a dependable filtered water supply throughout the skyscraper, effectively meeting its diverse water storage needs.

By leveraging our expertise, Tricel played a key role in enhancing the Walkie Talkie building’s infrastructure. The result? A high-quality, long-lasting filtered water supply tank system that supports the functionality of this iconic London landmark.
