A Fast Track GRP Water Tank Installation for a High Demand Stadium Facility
In 2025, Tricel Water was appointed by Scottish Water Business Stream (SWBS) to design, manufacture, and install two large GRP water storage tanks at Murrayfield Stadium.
With a major stadium event scheduled for 5 November, the project came with strict timescales, multiple stakeholders, and technical requirements that demanded precise engineering.
Thanks to close collaboration with Mott MacDonald, streamlined communication between all parties, and rapid mobilisation of our manufacturing and installation teams, both tanks were successfully installed ahead of deadline.
This project demonstrates Tricel’s expertise in delivering complex, time-sensitive water infrastructure solutions for high-profile clients.
Client Requirements
Murrayfield Stadium, one of Scotland’s most iconic venues, required two large potable water storage tanks to support increased demand and ensure full compliance with performance and safety requirements. The client required:
- Two 11m x 3m x 3m GRP sectional tanks
- Quick turnaround from design approval to installation
- A supplier with full manufacturing control and the ability to support detailed technical submissions
- Guaranteed readiness before a major stadium event on 5 November 2025
The project was tendered through Scottish Water Business Stream, with design support from Mott MacDonald’s Manchester and Aberdeen offices.
Project Challenges
- Tight Programme: Only weeks to design, manufacture, and install both tanks.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Multiple consultant offices required updated designs.
- Competitive Tender: Competing with Balmoral, Purewater, and Dutypoint.
- Contractual Risk: Delivery commitment only possible once the client confirmed the order.
“Tricel’s involvement from design stage ensured quality and timely delivery.”
