Tricel (Weston) Ltd., the GRP cold water storage tank manufacturer, has announced a partnership with Hydraclean Ltd., a Legionella Control Association member with over 40 years of experience in water hygiene and Legionella compliance, to provide Tricel customers with a comprehensive aftercare service for cold water storage tanks.

Under the arrangement, Hydraclean will deliver four aftercare packages to Tricel tank customers across the UK: an annual cleaning and chlorination programme carried out to BS8558:2015; a 6-monthly physical inspection aligned with HSG274 Part 2; 3-monthly full potable microbiological sampling, covering total viable count, E. coli, coliforms, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa; and 3-monthly Legionella culture sampling, tested by UKAS accredited independent laboratories and assessed against the action levels published in HSG274. All compliance documentation is held on Hydraclean’s Watercompliance.online portal, to which clients have continuous digital access.

The partnership gives Tricel customers the option to arrange supply, installation, and ongoing regulatory compliance maintenance through a single co-ordinated point of contact — from specification and commissioning through to the annual, 6-monthly, and quarterly maintenance activities required under ACoP L8.

Background: the regulatory obligation

Cold water storage tanks in commercial and multi-residential buildings are identified in HSG274 Part 2 as a risk environment for Legionella pneumophila and other waterborne pathogens. The HSE’s Approved Code of Practice, ACoP L8, places a legal duty on building owners and those who control premises to manage this risk through a written scheme of control, with documented monitoring and maintenance records retained for a minimum of five years.

HSG274 requires cold water storage tanks to be cleaned and disinfected at least annually, and inspected at a minimum annually. Legionella sampling, carried out by a competent person using a UKAS accredited laboratory, is a recognised monitoring method under the ACoP L8 framework. Non-compliance with ACoP L8 can be used as evidence of a breach of health and safety law in criminal proceedings.

The Building Safety Act 2022 has extended documentation obligations for higher-risk residential buildings — those of seven storeys or more, or 18 metres or more in height — where the Principal Accountable Person is required to maintain a safety case evidencing how risks, including those arising from water systems, are being managed. The Watercompliance.online portal provides a digital record consistent with the evidential requirements of that obligation.

"

Our customers invest in quality cold water storage infrastructure because they recognise the regulatory environment they are operating in. The logical next step has always been to give them access to the ongoing compliance programme that ACoP L8 requires — and to do that through a partner whose credentials we can stand behind. Hydraclean brings the depth of experience, the appropriate accreditations, and a digital documentation platform that gives our customers a proper audit trail from day one. We see this as completing the offer we make to the buildings sector.

About Hydraclean Ltd.

Hydraclean Ltd, headquartered in Bredbury, Greater Manchester, with a southern office in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, has operated in water hygiene and Legionella compliance since the 1980s. The company employs more than 50 people, holds membership of the Legionella Control Association, and carries a team of qualified L8 risk assessors, water treatment specialists, and trained water hygiene technicians.

Hydraclean’s services span water hygiene, water treatment, engineering, Legionella compliance and risk assessment, and training. All Legionella and potable microbiological samples collected under the Tricel aftercare packages will be tested by independent UKAS accredited laboratories to ISO 17025 — the recognised UK standard for testing laboratory competence.

"

Cold water storage tanks are a defined control point in any Legionella risk management programme, and we deal with them across every sector we work in — commercial, residential, healthcare, and education. When Tricel approached us about this partnership, the fit was clear. Their tanks go into exactly the buildings where the regulatory expectations are most acute and where a properly documented compliance programme is not optional. We are in a position to deliver that programme to a consistent standard across the UK, and to give clients the kind of documentation that holds up when an enforcement authority or insurer asks for it.

Watercompliance.online

All aftercare clients under the Tricel–Hydraclean partnership will receive login credentials for Watercompliance.online, Hydraclean’s cloud-based compliance portal. The portal holds site visit records, planned preventive maintenance schedules, sampling results, inspection reports, cleaning certificates, and a structured fault-tracking function — all accessible to clients at any time without contacting Hydraclean.

Facilities managers can record their own temperature monitoring and outlet flushing data directly on the portal. Readings outside the defined acceptable range are flagged automatically. The portal is designed to replace paper log books with a searchable, auditable digital record that satisfies the documentation requirements of ACoP L8 and supports the golden thread obligations introduced under the Building Safety Act 2022.

Availability and scope

The four aftercare packages are available to new and existing Tricel Water UK customers with cold water storage tanks in commercial, multi-residential, industrial, healthcare, and education buildings throughout the UK. Packages are available individually or in combination. Tricel tank customers may arrange aftercare at the point of order, so that supply, installation, commissioning, and the ongoing maintenance programme are co-ordinated from the outset.

Further details of the packages, including the regulatory basis and technical scope of each service, are available at [LINK]. Enquiries may be directed to Tricel Water UK by telephone on [PHONE] or by email at [EMAIL].
